Huntsdoc
Following the tragic death of a patient in the Fenland area there has been a major overhaul of all the out of hours services in Cambridgeshire. The contract for managing Huntsdoc has moved to the previous managers of Camdoc, who used to run the Cambridge out of hours service. The service will continue to be available from Hinchingbrooke Hospital site. The only changes initially are that the surgery phone numbers are re-routed to the Cambridge telephone answering system and the details are electronically passed through to the doctors and nurses at Hinchingbrooke base. If you ring 01487 710981, our emergency number, that will still reach the emergency out of hours service. If you would prefer to dial directly, the new phone number is 0330 123 9131. 2010-04-13

Early Extended Access Surgery – Thursdays 07.00-08.00
We are now doing this as a regular feature and it is proving very successful. It is particularly useful for patients who need to have fasting blood tests, and also for those who are commuting. Please use our more normal working hour slots unless these reasons apply to you. There are also Saturday morning surgeries once a month. 2010-04-13

NHS Choices Website (www.nhs.uk)
We are very grateful to all the patients who have written such wonderful things about our service and our staff on this site. Please feel free to read this. If you have family in other parts of the country, please let them know that NHS Choices website can give them quite a lot of useful information about all the surgeries in their area. 2010-04-13

Retinal Photography for diabetes
David Harrison has retired after helping our diabetic patients for over 15 years with retinal screening. His work will continue under the leadership of Vikesh Measuria. Patients should continue to phone the March office (Tel: 01354 652418) to arrange an appointment once they have received their reminder notification from the Hinchingbrooke based management team for retinal screening. 2010-04-13

Dr Nidhi Pandey
Nidhi has settled in well and is doing 4 sessions a week. This ensures we have greater provision of female doctors and more choice for our patients. 2010-04-13

Politics in the NHS
The stresses in the economy are being mirrored by stresses in the NHS, despite government reassurances. The local PCT (Primary Care Trust) has been struggling to manage the finances and so the next clever idea from the Department of Health is to give the budgets to GPs and ask them to try to manage it!! We are going to be brave and take on this challenge. We have shown over the last 3 years that we have been able to manage our budget and hope to do so despite the changing circumstances ahead. We continue to promise that patients will get the drugs that they need but to always get the most cost effective drugs to begin with. We also promise that patients will get the referrals that they need. We ask your help in trying to cancel any unnecessary follow-ups. 2010-04-13

New Doctor announcement
A new lady doctor will be joining us from September 2009.
Dr Nidhi Pandey is moving down from Manchester, and qualified from Leeds. Her husband will be working at Addenbrookes and they have a 6 month old baby son.
We are looking forward to her starting, and are sure that patients will be delighted with her.

Car Parking Issues
Construction work on the Ramsey Community centre has started, without ANY car park spaces, and not even any dedicated disabled spaces. Hunts District council in its wisdom had done a deal with the developers and Tescos, such that parking was considered irrelevant, and that surplus capacity at the rainbow site would meet the minimal needs of daytime users in the community hall. despite our letters and a petition, and Dr Richmond speaking at the planning meeting, as well as protestations from ramsey mayors and town council, the application was allowed to proceed without any parking provision.
We are continuing to make our views known, and have had a useful meeting with a senior chap from Tescos. If we fail to make progress, we will restart securing names on a petition, and seeking a review from every possible direction.
Foootings have been dug and concrete poured already!

ALCOHOL SERVICES
We succeeded in obtaining a grant of £25,000 towards new work with alcohol affected families and patients, and look forward to the continued invaluable and unparalleled work done by Nick Charles MBE and Nikki de Villiers for our patients. (Try googling Nick Charles and Chaucer clinic). Also see The Gainsborough Foundation or Nick & Nikki's Place (Nick and Nikki's place is currently not updated)
We have also enabled the other surgeries in the local area to tap into this service, and look forward to reducing the damage done by alcohol locally. We are also actively involved in Foetal Alcohol Spectrum disorder (FASD) awareness work, catalysed by one of our patients.
